Baby cardigan in ribbed knitting

Design: Ruth Sørensen

The baby cardigans are knitted in different types of woollen yarn that matches needle nr. 3½.

I have used multicolour Kauni Effect Yarn and Evilla Art Yarn 8/2 and similar woollen yarns.
These yarns run 300 – 400 m/100 g, and that variation is all right for the model because the rib knitting gives good flexibility and in the direction of the knitting is measured in cm’.

In these qualities of yarn the cardigans are thought of as outdoor clothes, but it is of course also possible to use softer qualities of wool – fx alpaca or merino – or cotton, bamboo or maybe silk. You just have to become aware of that the last-mentioned types of yarn are less elastic than wool, and therefore the cardigans will seem wider in the sleeves and longer.
You can perhaps choose to use a mixed yarn.

The pattern is in four sizes – 0 – 3 – 6 and 12 months, but the model is very flexible.  The sleeves can be tucked- up in the beginning and later on be folded down, as the arms are growing.
The rib knitted sleeves do that it is easy to dress the baby, and because it can be knitted without seams there will be no unpleasant hems for the baby to lie on.

In the pattern it is carefully described and shown on pictures how you work, so that less practised knitters also can take part.
Further on there are different proposals for variations of the model.
